In a perfect world, everyone would have a strong sense of self-belief, which would allow them to pursue the life they want and the happiness everyone deserves. Unfortunately, a lot of people struggle with belief in self, and there are plenty of reasons why.
But, there is power in self-belief. It's potentially the greatest asset you can have – because no matter what your skill level when you believe in your ability to do, you can accomplish a lot more. People with a strong self of self-belief are more energized when tackling anything.
But, what can you do to develop belief in yourself?
- Be Realistic
This is one of the most important factors when it comes to self-belief because we often give ourselves too much to do and then lose confidence when we inevitably can't. You can accomplish anything you want, but you need to be realistic.
So, if you have a giant years-long goal, you need to break that down into bitesize pieces so you constantly achieve those on your path to achieving the big one. Set achievable daily, weekly, and monthly goals that feed into your bigger goal. The more you achieve the more you will believe in yourself.
- Passions & Accomplishments
When you accomplish a goal or pursue a passion, you need to acknowledge your effort and success. It doesn't matter how small it is, it's big enough to acknowledge. You should pat yourself on your back. You should make time to pursue things you're passionate about, whether you just enjoy them or you're great at them. Either way, it boosts self-belief.
- Share Yourself
When you lack self-belief it's difficult to do this, but put yourself out there and share your knowledge and expertise. The more you share the things you're passionate about, the more you share the things you're great at, and the more self-belief you will have. When you reach out to help others with your strong skills, it's naturally going to make you feel a deeper sense of self-confidence in yourself.
And similarly, if you feel unsure of something or you need clarification, be sure to speak up. By asking questions, you feel more confident in what you're doing. And you avoid making mistakes or errors that may derail your self-belief.
- Self-Care
This is really important because part of building strong self-belief is recognizing how important you are. And a great way to acknowledge how important you are is to practice self-care. Set boundaries with people and be sure to maintain them. Look after your body's needs. Make an effort to meet your mental and spiritual needs, whether it's by continuously learning or knowing when to take a break. Surround yourself with people who support and love you.
- Reach
This might sound like a cliché, and it may sound counterintuitive considering the first point was to be realistic. But the point is you should dream. You should chase more if you want more.
It doesn't matter if you succeed at everything you do, when you reach for the stars you are giving yourself a higher likelihood of succeeding. Again, just be sure to break down those goals into achievable steps to keep your momentum going.
It doesn't matter what other people say, you have to shut that external noise out and focus on yourself. You're the only person who can develop your sense of self-belief, but if you aren't actively working on it, others can tear that sense of self-belief down. So shut it all out and focus on what you are doing, instead of worrying about what others say, think or do.
